Razor Users Forum Update

Razor Users Forum

In November 2003, we held our annual Razor Users Forum. During the Forum, we asked for input on some of our ideas for future Razor enhancements and functionality. We also asked our group of worldwide attendees for their own suggestions for improving the tool suite. We received some great feedback! Now we'd like to open up the discussion to all of our users through an online discussion forum hosted on CMCrossroads.com.

CM Crossroads is an online community whose interest lies in Configuration Management. We have set up some discussion threads based upon the hottest topics covered at the forum. Please share your input and ideas with us and your fellow Razor user community! We look forward to hearing from you!

NOTE: To enter a discussion on CMCrossroads.com, you will need to become a registered user. Participation is free! If you have any questions during the process, please contact Razor support at razor_support@visiblesystemscorp.com.

2004 Razor Users Forum

We've already started thinking about next year's forum and plan to host it in the last quarter of 2004. We will be sure to update you with more specific information as soon as possible.

Tech Tip

Binary Files & TMP

By default, Razor will try to use either SCCS or RCS as the underlying archival engine for the file version control scheme. These systems work just fine in many situations, but some file formats require special handling. These are often non-ASCII files, and can be of any type; tar files, CAD files, documents from a word processor, etc. These types of files are Binary files.

When you are introducing Binary type files, you need at least twice the space of the largest Binary file you will be introducing in tmp. On UNIX type OS's you can try running the command df -k to find out how much space is available in tmp.

Locate the line for /tmp within output and this will indicate the total amount of space allocated to /tmp and the amount of space currently available in /tmp. You can also check with your System Administrator regarding tmp space and increasing it if necessary.

Note: The Razor tmp area is usually /tmp (for non-Windows) and $INTERIX_ROOT/tmp (for Windows). The environment variable $RAZOR_TMP can be used to define a different location for tmp files.

Visible LCSIS: "The Power of Ten"

Visible System's Corporation has launched its Life Cycle Support Information System or LCSIS (pronounced lex-us) to provide industry with another one of Visible's proven productivity tools. LCSIS follows in the footsteps of Razor a power of 10 management tool that has been proven to increase profits, and reduce time to market for software product development.

Now Visible LCSIS has been added as a new generation Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solution that optimizes a company's ability to manage its concurrent product development environments, and company sensitive documents.

Visible LCSIS supports ISO 9000 quality standards. Its current release supports Windows 95/98/NT/2000. The next release version of LCSIS for UNIX (SQL Anywhere Studio for Workgroups 8.0.2) will include support for the database server on the following UNIX platforms:

Analyst Framework Edition

The Visible Analyst Framework Edition has evolved from the Visible Analyst family of products which represent a remarkable achievement in terms of breadth and robustness. Amongst modeling tools, Analyst excels in the areas of supporting wider ranges of methodologies, providing tight coupling of functional areas, including unsurpassed excellence in coordinating the modeling efforts of large software teams, and bringing world-class modeling software to customers at an affordable price.

"This announcement of the Enterprise Architecture Edition of Visible Analyst extends the capabilities of this powerful product into the Enterprise Architecture market. The earlier edition of Strategic Business Planning in V7.6 of Visible Analyst has been expanded now by the ability to use the Zachman Framework as an interface into the underlying models. These models, once accessed from the Zachman Framework interface, are fully active; they can be changed or enhanced dynamically as required in an EA project - distinct from other tools that provide access only to static models. Furthermore, it is one of the few modeling tools in the Enterprise Architecture market at present that supports ALL 30 cells of the Zachman Framework," observed Clive Finkelstein, the "Father" of Information Engineering and Managing Director of Information Engineering Services Pty Ltd in Australia.

An example of a standout Visible Analyst application exists within the Social Security Administration. The system that provides U.S. citizens with their annual Social Security Statement was conceptualized, implemented, and delivered using Visible Analyst technology. Thus, whether we are talking oil, aerospace, military, commercial, education, or just our annual Social Security statements, Visible Analyst means leading-edge technology engineered for excellence!
