VISIBLE PRODUCT ACCELERATES TRANSITION OF LEGACY APPLICATIONS AND DEVELOPMENT OF NEW APPLICATIONS OVER TO MICROSOFT .NET

VISIBLE Developer 3.3 builds applications at half the cost and effort of traditional development methods.

Lexington, MA. - October 27, 2003 -- Visible Systems Corporation, a member of the Microsoft Visual Studio .NET Integration Program (VSIP), unveiled the next iteration of its tool, Visible Developer 3.3, designed to help companies more efficiently build enterprise-wide applications using Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003. Visible Developer 3.3 works within the Visual Studio .NET IDE to automatically generate 90+% of the business logic and database access code in Microsoft Visual Basic .NET and Visual C# .NET directly from the application model. With Visible Developer 3.3, companies building new applications or moving existing applications to the Microsoft .NET Framework can save at least 50% of the cost of traditional development methods.

Visible Developer 3.3 is a software component design and development tool that generates fully functional three-tier applications incorporating the latest technologies: ADO.NET, Microsoft Visual Basic .NET, Visual C# .NET and XML. It maps the physical database design to a single logical business object. Developers use design-time objects to express business requirements in Visible Developer's model. Code patterns translate requirements into .NET forms and classes. Stored procedures are generated and used in the .NET applications.

Because it is model-based, Visible Developer is particularly valuable to companies that use model-driven architecture. By combining a single model of the business application with the Visual Basic .NET and Visual C# .NET code patterns, Visible Developer lets companies modernize applications without the cost and risk of a rewrite. The IT group gets greater leverage from its existing staff, and developers maintain focus on adding business value.

"Visible just made it easier for companies to move legacy applications to Microsoft's .NET Framework while leveraging existing IT investments," said Mike Cesino, President and COO of Visible Systems. "Beginning with this version, users have an option of using either MS Access or SQL Server 2000 as the repository for Visible Developer's models. We have also extended our database support to include more advanced features for IBM DB2 and Informix databases" added Cesino.

More features of this release include .NET Remoting and User-Defined Code Patterns. By added support for .NET Remoting, Layer 3 (the persist layer) is deployed on a different domain and connected to remotely. The configuration can be customized as necessary in the generated code and preserved during subsequent code generations. The User-Defined Code Patterns enable customizations of the generated code in cases where users need to tailor the generated code to suit their unique coding styles/practices. Developers can either derive a class from one of the standard .NET code pattern classes or author new classes.

"Visible Developer complements and extends the power of Microsoft Visual Studio. NET 2003 by automatically generating business logic for the developer," said David Lazar, director for the Developer and Platform Evangelism Division at Microsoft Corp. "Microsoft is glad to see Visible delivering such a robust solution to our mutual customers."

Code patterns translate requirements into the Microsoft Visual Basic .NET classes, modules, forms, and stored procedures comprising the applications.

Because it is model-based, Visible Developer is particularly valuable to companies that use model-driven architecture. By combining a single model of the business application with the Visual Basic .NET and Visual C# .NET code patterns, Developer lets companies modernize applications without the cost and risk of a rewrite. The IT group gets greater leverage from its existing staff, and developers maintain focus on adding business value.

Visible Developer's model-based development results in reusable, technology-neutral business components. The current product includes code generation for Visual Basic .NET and Visual C# .NET. A synchronization feature keeps the business component design consistent with the underlying database.
